Survival Rolls

Part of the Post-Game Sequence (Step 6). After scenario rewards, retinues make Survival Rolls to see what they salvage after the battle.

Reward Roll Rule

Any random reward roll uses 2d6.

  • On natural double 1, resolve the roll's Mishap result.
  • On natural double 6, resolve the roll's Bonus result.
  • Modifiers change the total only. Check natural doubles before applying modifiers. If the natural roll was not double 1 or double 6, modifiers cannot create result 2 or result 12.

Sequence at a Glance

1. Check Scenario Result — Win, loss, or draw 2. Check Battlefield Location — The scenario defines the location method 3. Choose Survival Table — Winner uses location; loser uses Generic 4. Roll 2d6 — Natural double 1 = Mishap; natural double 6 = Bonus 5. Apply Reward — Set aside Relics until the Economy step

Scavenging

Fighters who were Active at the end of the battle may join the Survival Roll as scavengers. A fighter escorting a patient to the Barber Surgeon cannot scavenge.

Start with a base pool of 2d6. Each scavenging fighter adds 1d6 to the pool. Roll all dice, keep the 2 highest, and read them as the 2d6 result on the selected Survival table. Apply the Reward Roll Rule as normal — check for natural double 1s or double 6s before adding modifiers.

Survival Tables

After scenario rewards, each retinue makes 1 Survival Roll.

  • The winner rolls on the battlefield location's Survival table.
  • The loser rolls on the Generic Survival table.
  • In a draw, both retinues roll on the Generic Survival table.

Location tables have a higher ceiling and more dangerous failures. The Generic table is steadier and helps a losing retinue return home with something useful.

If a result tells you to select a surviving fighter and your retinue has no surviving fighters, ignore that part of the result.

Battlefield Location Table

Each scenario defines its battlefield location. A scenario may name a fixed location, tell players to roll on the table below, or provide its own smaller location table.
